In practice, transformative work emerges from asking questions to define the problem and it is of necessity an inter- disciplinary team pursuit. It demands active listening, curiosity and intuition, research-based evaluation and the willingness to float new ideas along side the status quo. It requires taking calculated risks together, imagining beyond a known solution.
Each assignment transcends the design of the building itself. Design leadership therefore extends to the design of a process of discovery that seamlessly integrates systems and that results in a resonance with the site, climate and culture in and expression of the technology through which it is crafted.
Design is a systematic, artful and collaborative quest. And when all comes together, the outcome can be both a work of art and a technological discovery where the spaces and places inspire, engage and teach. Collectively everyone involved makes a statement about hope for the future.
